Buchanan is the leading investigator of regulatory mechanisms in photosynthesis, a position he earned by his discovery of the ferredoxin-thioredoxin system that regulates the enzymes of photosynthetic CO2 assimilation. Buchanan and coworkers also discovered the ferredoxin-linked carboxylation enzymes and, most recently, a regulatory role of thioredoxin in the germination of cereal seeds. |
