Berenbaum has made major contributions to understanding of the role of chemistry in interactions between plants and herbivorous insects. She has identified key plant defensive chemicals and determined their modes of action. Her investigations have encompassed both proximate physiological mechanisms and their evolutionary consequences for both plants and insects. |
Research Interests
|
My research interests include chemical ecology, insect/plant interactions, systematics and evolutionary biology of Lepidoptera and other phytophagous insects, xenobiotic metabolism (cytochrome P450), and photobiology (furanocoumarins, furanoquinoline alkaloids, and other natural photosensitizers). |
