Allegre has made major contributions to our understanding of the coupled evolution of Earth's mantle and continental crust, through a multi-isotopic tracer approach using radiogenic isotopes of Sr, Nd, Pb, Xe, Ar, He, Os, and Th. Among other things, these studies have provided evidence for very early degassing of volatiles from the Earth, with limited subsequent mixing between the upper mantle and the lower mantle and atmosphere. |
