Using novel genetic screens, biochemistry and immunocytochemistry, Raikhel elucidated the organization and functioning of the secretory system in plant cells including the signals and vesicle machinery for targeting proteins to lytic and storage vacuoles. She also identified genes required for biosynthesis of xyloglucan, a major component of the cell wall. |
