About the PNAS Member Editor
Name Carpenter, Stephen R.
Location University of Wisconsin-Madison
Primary Field Environmental Sciences and Ecology
Secondary Field Human Environmental Sciences
 Election Citation
Carpenter is a leader in lake ecosystem science. He showed how fish control lake productivity and nutrient cycling, and his manipulations of entire lakes have brought whole-ecosystem experimentation to a new level of sophistication.
 Research Interests
My current research topics are scenarios for resilient futures of social-ecological systems and abrupt transitions of watershed, river, and lake ecosystems. My field research is based in Wisconsin and my global work is interactive with Stockholm Resilience Center.
