Burgen, a founder of modern molecular pharmacology, has elucidated fundamental principles of drug-receptor interactions, especially by studying conformation changes in such interactions with nuclear magnetic resonance. He directed the National Institute of Medical Research for ten years. He is immediate past vice-president and foreign secretary of the Royal Society. |
Research Interests
|
I have studied physiological and biochemical mechanisms of transmission at synapses and model systems of molecular interactions and conformation changes in receptors. Most of this has been on cholinergic synapses, but currently I am modeling interactions at 5-HT receptors. |
