About the PNAS Member Editor
Name Colella, Phillip
Location Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Primary Field Applied Mathematical Sciences
Secondary Field Engineering Sciences
 Election Citation
Colella is a leader in the development of mathematical methods and computer science tools for science and engineering. His work has resulted in software tools applicable in a wide variety of problems in fluid dynamics, shock wave theory, and astrophysics.
 Research Interests
My research interests are in numerical methods for partial differential equations, with applications to a variety of problems in science and engineering. Current applications include astrophysics, biological modeling, geophysical fluid dynamics, and plasma physics. I am also developing high-performance software tools to support the use of adaptive finite-volume methods and particle methods across multiple applications domains.
