Greenwald discovered the C. elegans LIN-12 receptor in parallel with discovery of Drosophila Notch, and was the first to show that the molecular circuitry governing a type of cell-cell interaction critical for all animal development, called lateral signaling, involved the conserved LIN-12/Notch signaling system. |
