Demain is one of the world's leading industrial microbiologists and a pioneer in research on the elucidation and regulation of the biosynthetic pathways leading to penicillins and cephalosporins. He has led the way to the development of the beta-lactam industry and the fed-batch fermentations so prominent in the industry today.
 Research Interests
Industrial microbiology, biotechnology, industrial fermentation, antibiotics, enzymes, secondary metabolism, biofuels, bioconversions are my principal interests.
