Caskey advanced our knowledge of the mechanism for release of nascent proteins from ribosomes. He characterized the HPRT gene and identified mutations in patients with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. Most recently, he has been a leader in describing a novel genetic mechanism for human disease--expansion of unstable trinucleotide repeats.
 Research Interests
Primary research areas are human genetics, the Human Genome Initiative, functional genetics, drug development, and vaccine development, particularly for the DNA adenovirus.
