Moncada discovered that mammalian vascular tissues generate nitric oxide that is biosynthesized from L-arginine. He elucidated the relevance of this pathway as a universal transduction mechanism for the regulation of cell function and communication. He also played a major role in the discoveries of thrombxane synthase and prostacyclin. |
Research Interests
I am interested in pathophysiology of thrombosis, atherosclerosis and inflammatory diseases. I also have an interest in vasoactive substances including nitric oxide, products of arachidonic acid metabolism and endothelium. |
